This month has been a very busy one for my family and me.  I looked at my calendar today and realized that the month is already almost over!  I have so many blogs on my mind, but have not been able to make the time to sit and type.  At the beginning of the year, I started a candy buffet business.  It was a little slower to start than I had anticipated, but these last two months have been busy for me.

Why is it that people prosper while lying, cheating, and taking advantage of honest people? Why is it that honest people suffer at their hands? I must constantly re-evaluate; where does my treasure lie?

Teeth, the Tooth Fairy, and Trust - Homemaking Simplified

This week, our eldest daughter lost her first tooth. It was a reminder of the short time we have with our babies.  With this reminder came the reality that my eldest "baby" is becoming a big girl who is formulating opinions, experiences, and expectations based on past experiences.

Eight Reasons I Don't Share My Faith

Dear Christian,
Do you ever share your faith and hope in Christ?  I am not talking about cornering people and declaring their imminent demise and judgement, but sharing your blessed hope in the age to come.

Mashed Potatoes from Scratch

My family and I love potatoes.  Really, we love potatoes.  Because we eat them so frequently, and because the are a root vegetable--that is, they grow underground soaking in everything from the soil, not just onto its skins, but into its flesh--we buy organic.  Mashed potatoes are a family favorite that are sure to complement most any meal.  Here is a quick and easy recipe that uses only 5 ingredients!

According to the Bible, I Am...

I saw a photo on Pinterest that I really have not been able to get out of my mind.  It is a picture of a little girl with a hand written poster with two columns.  One column states, "According to religion I am: -broken -flawed -sinful -dumb -weak -nothing" (sic.).  The other column states, "According to science I am: -full of wonder -smart -a great learner -beautiful -potential for greatness" (sic.).

The See Saw: A Lesson in Weights and Measures

There are so many ways to educate children in practical ways.  I love focusing on real-life lessons, especially in the early years.  As parents, we can turn any event into a lesson that will benefit our children and stimulate their minds.

Dealing with Overwhelming Feelings

Colossians 3;23-24

Some days I just feel really low, overwhelmed by expectations and tasks that seem to tower before me. The truth is, these days are usually not any different than the rest, except in that vast and seemingly infinite place, called my mind.

I am a pretty private person.  I love social media, but I like to keep a certain degree of privacy.  Although I am willing to share a lot of information about things that I like, things that I do, and even what my kids look like, there are certain things that I do not publicly share.  One such thing is my home address, or so I thought...

Simple Composition Book Cover

Easy Composition Book Cover

Composition books are one of my favorite tools.  My kids and I use them for so many of our daily tasks.  I use one as a planner and I use them for my kids homeschooling as copy work and tracing books.  There are so many uses for composition books!  The only thing that keeps me going back to buying commercial planners--that I never end up using past a month--is that commercial planners are SO CUTE! I'm nowhere near the first to admit that I love pretty things.

Love Never Fails

One of the most often read passages in weddings must be that of 1 Corinthians 13:4-7.  This beautiful passage, however, cannot be separated from 1 Corinthians 7 and Ephesians 5.  Love never fails, this is true, but when we spot "failed love" in our society ridden with separations, divorce, and adultery we must look to these other passages to see what true love is.

Creating an Educational Philosophy - Free Printables

What is an educational philosophy?
An educational philosophy is used by educators as a guide for how he or she will educate students and gives a functional map of what he or she believe education ought to be.  Some of the things that an educational philosophy statement should touch on are:
  • Your educational approach/ method/ style (classical, contemplative, humanistic, Montessori, high/scope, un-schooling, and so on)
  • Your role as an educator in the classroom and in the community
  • How to intend to reach all of your students
  • How you believe students learn best
  • Your goals for your students

10 Minute Mini Sketch Book

Like most toddlers, my kids love to draw. My five year old goes through sketch books fairly quickly. She was asking for a custom sketchbook, so this is what I whipped up!

This mini sketch book used supplies most of us already have sitting at home and took less than 10 minutes. It also cost me less than a dollar in consumable products! Major plus! Next time I will make several and save them for gifts.

How to Easily Wash and Dry Your Rugs without a Carpet Cleaner!

Carpeting is a great thing, but over time, rugs collect dust, debris, food, and other not-so-pretty things. This is especially true with kids in the house. Our kids are asthmatic, so the allergens that our rugs collect must be kept at bay. We have had a trusty carpet cleaner for the past six years, but after losing a filter cover we have had to find another way of keeping our rugs clean.  So here is what you will need: dirty rug(s), laundry detergent, a water hose (spraying attachments are a plus), a cemented area, and a bristled brush (we use a long car-washing brush that looks like a push-broom).
After vacuuming your rugs, take them outside to a cemented area.

New Year, New Beginnings: Pointillism Artwork

I am not much of a "new year resolution" person, but I must admit that there is something wonderful about the year "refreshing."  Yes, yesterday carries over into today, but at the same time, the dawn of a new year can make it seem as though it doesn't.  Today was the first Monday of the year, so we commenced school.  Being that my kids are in kindergarten and pre-school, we keep homeschooling it pretty simple.
